Summary
These lesson plans and resources are particularly poignant in light of the increasing and worrying rise in divisive and dangerous rhetoric in the UK.
These resources form part of a larger piece of work being developed with University of Reading research academics (who also work as consultants to the Council of Europe) and seasoned education practitioners, and equity in education and anti-hate specialists.
Resources will include a manual, toolkit and further lesson plans for schools. All materials will be embedded with the most recent, robust and rigorous academic research and will be created in coproduction with experienced teachers.
How to use the lesson plan
• This lesson plan is a scheme of work lasting six lessons
• Key topics to be covered and knowledge achieved by the end of the session are outlined
• Supplementary resources have been provided which may be used in class to better situate the content with students
• The ‘Further Reading’ section provides references to additional reading by lesson plan collaborator and creator Shingirirai Hopkins, who is an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (E&D) Lead, Agricultural Sustainability Consultant, and Subject Lead for Sociology and Psychology at a secondary school in Reading, as well as an African History PhD researcher at the University of Reading.
